Get Closer at Safari Niagara

New for 2017 – Enjoy a private behind-the-scenes tour of select exhibit areas at Safari Niagara. The following private tours will take you and your guests on a wild journey and offer a peek at where our wild animal keepers perform their daily duties of cleaning, preparing diets and enrichment for the animals.

Choose from the following tours:

  • Giraffe Experience
  • Rhino Experience
  • Lion Experience
  • Jr. Zookeeper For A Day

Please note the following:

  • Experiences run approximately 30 minutes (may run up to 45 minutes)
  • Experiences limited to a maximum of six people and a minimum of two people
  • Minimum age to experience tour is 6 years old.
  • Space is limited and reservations are recommended to avoid disappointment
  • Credit card required to hold booking and will be charged on day of tour
  • 48 hour cancellation policy – if a tour is cancelled within 48 hours of reservation date the credit card used for booking will be charged the full amount
  • Tours run rain or shine
  • Safari Niagara reserves the right to change an experience due to circumstances out of our control such as an animal’s health, exhibit maintenance, etc
  • Absolutely no photos allowed on the tours
  • Admission to Safari Niagara is an additional cost

How to Book Your Behind The Scenes Experience:

We are now taking bookings for our Giraffe Experience, Rhino Experience, Lion Experience and Jr. Zookeeper for a Day Experience. Tours will start on July 1, 2017. Reservations are required for Behind the Scenes Experiences. Fill out the below form to inquire about our behind the scenes tours and a Safari Niagara staff member will be in touch with you. Giraffe Experience

Cost: $40.00 + HST per person

Availability: Runs daily at 2:00PM, excluding Tuesday

Each and every day 7 days a week all year long in every possible type of weather, Safari Niagara’s devoted Animal Care Team works diligently to ensure our animals receive the best possible care. Join us for a behind the scenes tour as keepers explain some of the trials and tributes facing them on a daily basis as they care for these noble creatures.

While exploring behind the scenes at the Giraffes, keepers will take you on a journey. You will learn how the tallest mammal in world is able to travel from zoo to zoo and exactly what it takes to bring them into Canada from another country. Learn the importance of quarantine and what is involved while working through the quarantine process. See how much thought goes into creating the environment that they now call home.

Ever wonder how it is possible for a giraffe to have the same number of vertebrate in the neck as humans; or how tall a baby giraffe is when it is born? While keepers answer these and many more questions they will also explain the need for sustainable captive populations; how these populations are governed and the importance it has on wild populations.

Join us for a behind the scenes tour and let Moses, Ziphora and Rainbow steel your heart as you stand next to one of the world’s most iconic species.

Big Cats Experience

Cost: $40.00 + HST per person

Availability: Runs daily at 11:00AM, excluding Friday

Each and every day 7 days a week all year long in every possible type of weather, Safari Niagara’s devoted Animal Care Team works diligently to ensure our animals receive the best possible care. Join us for a behind the scenes tour as keepers explain some of the trials and tributes facing them on a daily basis as they care for these noble creatures.

While exploring behind the scenes at the Big Cats, you will be face to face with one of the world’s deadliest predators. Whether it is the crafty Bengal Tigers or the regal Lions; feeling their breath in your face and understanding how they communicate with you will certainly intensify your experience.

Learn how their physical anatomy contributes to their sheer power and stealth. How they can be so gentle with their offspring yet when in search of food or in danger become a deadly opponent.

Keepers will explain the need for sustainable captive populations; how these populations are governed and the importance it has on wild populations.

Rhino Experience

Cost: $60.00 + HST per person

Availability: Runs daily at 4:00PM, excluding Wednesday

Each and every day 7 days a week all year long in every possible type of weather, Safari Niagara’s devoted Animal Care Team works diligently to ensure our animals receive the best possible care. Join us for a behind the scenes tour as keepers explain some of the trials and tributes facing them on a daily basis as they care for these noble creatures.

While exploring behind the scenes at the both the Southern White and Indian Rhinoceros houses, keepers will take you on a journey. Standing next to one of these majestic creatures will certainly put their size and brute strength into perspective. You will be able to gently rub the hard thick skins of these animals giving you understanding as to how they endure the heat and sustain injury from other rival males in their native habitats.

After visiting the White Rhino’s we will take you on a tour of the new Indian Rhino House, see the difference in size, physical characteristics and nutritional requirements that make these two species so very different.

Learn the importance of sustainable captive populations and how you can help this species by understanding the importance of captive breeding programs all over the globe. Learn even more as you explore the 5 species of rhino inhabiting our earth; and why their very existence is under threat.

Jr. Zookeeper for a Day

Cost: $150 + HST per person

Availability: CLOSED FOR THE SEASON (Runs daily 10:00AM – 2:00PM starting July 1, 2017 and ending September 4, 2017)

Spend a day working one on one alongside our zookeepers as they care for the animals at Safari Niagara. Assist with feeding and exhibit maintenance, and learn how they identify and evaluate their animals everyday. Participants will gain an understanding and appreciation of the world’s wildlife and the role Safari Niagara plays in efforts to conserve it.

Includes admission to Safari Niagara, lunch and a zookeeper commemorative bag and certificate. Minimum age to participate is 12 years old, maximum age is 17 years old. Jr. Zookeeper for a Day is not offered for groups and is meant to be a one on one experience for the child with the animal keepers.
