Meet the Otters

Come meet your Otters – Rhys and Harper!

The Northern River Otter is a semi-aquatic land mammal. River Otters reach sexual maturity at about 2 years old and have an interesting reproduction system. The process is called delayed implantation. Once the egg is fertilized it goes dormant allowing the otters to bear their young at a time where food is abundant and the environment is favourable. Once the pregnancy begins “pups” are born in approximately 9-12 months including the period of delayed implementation.

Come visit our Otters and learn more about these fascinating creatures at our daily Meet the Otters Keeper Talk.
